Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay
Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay is Singapore’s national performing arts centre and one of the city’s most recognisable architectural landmarks, known affectionately as the “durian” for its spiky dome design. The complex is an easy, mostly shaded walk from Swissôtel The Stamford, with underpasses and escalators providing a comfortable approach for older travellers.
Even without attending a performance, the Esplanade offers plenty to explore: indoor public art, a rooftop viewpoint, open atriums, rest areas, and small retail outlets. Its waterfront promenade presents panoramic views of Marina Bay, making it a comfortable location for leisurely exploration at a relaxed pace. Several cafés and light-bite eateries offer opportunities to rest and enjoy refreshments.
The surrounding paths are wide and smooth, ideal for those who prefer minimal physical strain. The Esplanade is also a convenient midpoint for visiting Merlion Park or strolling across the Jubilee Bridge.
